Pain is a mind/body experience. Breath work is the tool we use to not only unite the mind & body, it's also the tool for how the brain "perceives" pain as well as the communication between the brain & autonomic nervous system.
Breathing is the central component of EVERY mind/body strategy. No matter whether you experience pain from a headache, backache or toothache, or as the result of a chronic illness condition, when we feel pain, we tend to hold our breath, start shallow breathing and tense up. If you've been in pain for a while, your brain may have rewired itself to perceive pain signals even after the signals aren't being sent anymore. So, "how" we breathe is essential to activating the organs and systems in a way to reduce pain AND change the way we perceive pain.
