The Mind Body Athlete™

Ed’s approach develops peak performance by creating a “body OVER mind” atmosphere combining traditional training & fitness philosophies with mindfulness-based strategies harnessing the wisdom of the body to optimize performance.  We train and race with the body and mind united: The Mind Body Athlete™.

Performance Breathing As The Mind Body Athlete™

Most sport scientists, trainers & coaches still do not consider breathing to be a limiting factor for exercise performance. However, the past decade reveals evidence showing unequivocally that breathing not only limits exercise performance, but that removal of this limitation improves performance.

Breathing patterns affect exercise performance, endurance, speed and recovery.  How we breathe determines the physiologic response of the body.  With Respiratory Muscle Training, we can facilitate high altitude training no matter what your altitude.

The Mind Body Athlete™ understands that training the diaphragm muscle is their most powerful weapon.  Respiratory Muscle Training contributes to both the metabolic demand and sensory experience of exercise.  We “breathe to win”.

Mindful Movement As The Mind Body Athlete™

In addition to the sport-specific performance breath training, we combine cross-patterning therapeutic yoga movements, sequencing the power of the diagonal structure at a cellular level to create more body awareness and recalibrate the musculoskeletal & neuromuscular system.  Cross-patterning movement allows The Mind Body Athlete™ to strengthen awareness with the secondary muscles of the athlete’s particular sport while repairing and restoring the primary muscles.

Sports Meditation As The Mind Body Athlete™

Focus, awareness, clarity of thought, and the ability to stay in the present moment are basic skills for any great athlete.  Research reveals it is mental concentration that typically impacts performance during racing; not skill set.

Awareness based states allow us to guide the mind inward and not be distracted by our external environment.  Mindful meditation increases mental endurance partnered with the athlete’s physical talent and gifts.  It’s the blending of the doing and being as The Mind Body Athlete™.
